Keith Richards' guitar solo does not hold back on the effect. An otherwise thin, piercing tone commands respect through distortion. The tone is sonic barbed wire, thanks to his playing, his Les Paul, his VOX, and the glowing ember of distortion.

Mick Jagger's ad libs in the intro get an 1/8th note echo panned right. The echo returns with a bit of added regeneration during his falsetto in the coda, adding support, and a bit of 60s trippiness.
